First Denver Public Full Language Immersion School

Denver Language School will be located at 451 Newport St. (former Whiteman Elementary School). However, until June 2010, we are located at 7350 E. 29th Avenue, Suite 300 (one block east of 29th and Quebec, on the third floor). We are most grateful to the Stapleton Foundation for offering us office space and support for our pre-opening year.

The Denver Language School is still accepting applications for 2010. Any applications received will be added to the wait list of the corresponding grade/language in the order each application is received.

Registration packets (the 5 page registration form, parent surveys, uniform surveys, immunization records/information and birth records) can all be sent to:

You can also drop packets off at the above address, which are the offices for the Stapleton Foundation. The offices are open from 8 am to 5 pm daily.

The Denver Language School is a Mandarin Chinese/Spanish K-8 charter school that was approved by Denver Public Schools in June, 2009. Denver Language School will open on August 12, 2010 with students in grades K-2: Spanish3 kindergarten, 1 first grade and 1 second grade class; Mandarin2 kindergarten, 1 first grade and 1 second grade class.

Classes will have one full-time teacher and one teaching assistant, each with native or native-like language skills. Denver Language School will add a grade a year, until the school includes kindergarten through eighth grade. For kindergarten, first and second grade, the program will be full immersion (in either Spanish or Mandarin Chinese). The core academic day will be from 8 am to 3 pm daily.

DLS will also offer an optional extended day program from 3 pm to 6 pm to provide additional services needed in English, enrichment activities and extra support. Beginning in third grade, DLS will introduce an hour of instruction in English and steadily increase English language arts instruction until middle school (sixth through eighth grade)when DLS moves to a 50/50 model (50% English/50% target language). Through the total immersion process, Denver Language School will make the target language both the medium of instruction and the object of instruction.
