As the only K-8 Chinese/Spanish total immersion school in the Denver Public School (DPS) district, we offer open enrollment for two full-day kindergarten classes in each language (Mandarin and Spanish) for the 2018-19 school year. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by October 1, 2018. Full-day kindergarten's tuition rate is income-based and follows the DPS income-based scale. More information is provided on the DPS website here.
A limited number of spaces are likely in grades 1 through 8. Students applying for grades 2 through 8 are required to be assessed in order to determine their language proficiency for the grade level they are entering and whether or not they will be able to access the curriculum for that grade they are applying to.
Charter schools, like Denver Language School, are tuition-free public schools of choice (with the exception of Kindergarten). DLS participates in the School Choice process managed by DPS. By completing an application, you are entering your child into the lottery for the upcoming school year. This is not a guarantee of admission nor does it commit your child to attend DLS.
Round 1 of School Choice enrollment for the 2018-19 school year opened February 1, 2018 and closed February 28, 2018 at 4:00 pm. The lottery was conducted by the DPS Office of Choice and Enrollment Services during March of 2018 and the results were sent to families during April of 2018. Wait lists* from Kindergarten were generated from the applications not selected for any open seats from the first round. For DLS, all students applying for grades 1-8 were automatically wait listed* during Round 1.
Round 2 for the 2018-19 school year opened May 1, 2018 and will close August 31, 2018.
All students applying for grades 2-8 must be assessed for language proficiency to ensure the student are proficient in the target language for the grade level they are applying to.
*Wait lists do not carry over from year to year. Families must reapply if they were not selected from the lottery or called from the wait list during the school year they applied for.
