Attendance
Attendance
Your student can be marked absent through the DPS Parent Portal via Infinite Campus. Detailed instructions for how to mark your student absent through the DPS Parent Portal are available in English here and Spanish here.
If you are unable to use the DPS Parent Portal, you can report your child’s absence or tardy to attendance@denverlanguageschool.org or by calling the Main Office (DLS Whiteman: 303-557-0852, DLS Gilpin: 303-777-0544). Full day absences can also be reported in PikMyKid, however tardies cannot be marked in PikMyKid and must be reported to the Main Office directly.
If the student has a doctor's appointment please provide a doctor's note. Scan or take a clear picture and email to attendance@denverlanguageschool.org
If the student is absent for illness for more than 3 days a doctor’s note will be needed to continue to excuse the absences.
The school may notify parents or guardians of absences by one or more of the following methods:
Telephone call
Home visit or Truancy Notice after the student is habitually truant.
Family Vacations/Extended Excused Absences
We understand that families go on vacation throughout the school year. For any planned student absences that will be longer than 5 days, or if students will be absent for extended periods multiple times throughout the year, families are required to get approval from the school. The extended absences may be excused if the following steps are taken:
Parent/guardian completes the extended absence form (Spanish) one week prior to the absence, and submits it to the front desk (office@denverlanguageschool.org).
The operations team will alert the classroom teacher(s) and administration of the extended absence reason and number of missed days.
The classroom teacher(s) will provide work that needs to be completed during the absence to the parent/guardian and student.
All required missed work must be turned in on the day the student returns to school.
Once all work is turned in and graded by the teacher(s), the absences will be marked as excused.
*If a student is planning an extended absence for longer than a month (4 weeks), the student may be withdrawn from DLS, per DPS guidance, and re-enrolled upon return. All extended absences must be approved by the campus principal and DLS registrar prior to going on an extended absence.
Eary Dismissal
If your child needs to leave early, a parent or guardian must come into the school to sign them out in person. The parent or guardian should be prepared to show their photo ID. All early dismissals must be completed by 2:30 PM. This allows our staff the necessary time to prepare for the regular end-of-day dismissal.
*If you need medical care for your child you can access no-cost pediatric care at one of Denver Health’s School Based Health Centers. For more information, please see the flyer here.
