Shirley Li & Yi Zhang

Dear Parents/Guardians,

My name is Shirley Li.  I am going to be your child’s first grade teacher this year!   I am so excited that your child is going to be in my class!!

I am a graduate from Xinjiang Agriculture University in China.  I came to the US in 1995.  My Chinese teaching experience started shortly after and was uninterrupted ever since.  I have lived in Colorado for 15 years and love it!  I have 20 years experience working with primary school aged children.  I am one of the first Immersion Chinese Program teachers in Colorado at Denver International School.  This is my 4th full year of teaching in DLS!  I enjoy working with children and helping them reach for their dreams through their education.  I believe every child should be valued and treated with respect.  An education should empower a child and help him or her make a positive contribution to our world.

My husband and I have a beautiful family of two sons.  I love spending time with my family and husband.  In my spare time I like to shop, go to the mountains, cook, and read.

My TA Yi Zhang is a professional Mandarin teacher and has rich teaching experience and wonderful experiences in language education during the last four years. She has a strong educational background related to teaching Mandarin as a second language. She has two Bachelor’s Degrees respectively in English Art and Chinese Art. She also got her Master’s Degree in Chinese Linguistic from Suzhou University which is a key University in China.

First grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning.  We are looking forward to a very exciting and productive year working with your child.  We will strive each day to make learning a fun and enriching process for your child.  However, we need your help in making this year as successful as it can be!  We believe that we are all a team working together to help your child develop emotionally and academically.  You are the most important person in your child’s life and you are also a teacher in your child’s life.  We know if we work together and communicate, your child will have a very successful year!  Please contact us with any questions or concerns you may have during the year.  We can be reached at 303-557-0852 or and
