Welcome back for another exciting and active year at DLS. I hope this message finds everyone relaxed and ready to have a great school year!
My summer was spent leading a group of high school students to the Fiji Islands where we did service projects and cultural exchange. Even though I enjoyed my brief time with older students, I cannot wait to be back with the elementary age children!
The specials will be on a rotation every four weeks, rotating between P.E., Art, Music, and Technology! Each class will be 50 minutes long. There is not a formal uniform that students need to wear for class. All I ask is that your child brings tennis shoes to wear for class.
For your child’s safety, I ask that you please do not allow your child to wear boots, sandals, crocs, or ballet flats. If they are not wearing the proper footwear, they will not be allowed to participate for the day, and will miss out on that day’s activities.
Assessments: The students will be graded on a daily basis. They will be assessed on participation, cooperation/attitude, and daily skill tests. Twice a year your child will have a fitness test using the Fitnessgram assessment tool. This will help track the progress that your child will be making throughout the year.
Recess Volunteers: Volunteer to help out and have fun while doing it! We are reaching out to parents/ guardians to join us on the playground to help organize games for students at recess to increase physical activity throughout the day
while decreasing bullying on the playground. If interested in helping out, or have any questions please contact Robin Riley firstname.lastname@example.org
One of the major goals of this program is for students to realize that fitness is a lifestyle. Be a role model for your child! Go out and exercise and set aside time for a family walk or game each day. It doesn’t have to be long!! If you have any questions PLEASE feel free to contact me. It is going to be a GREAT year!
