Mariam Garcia

3rd Grade English

My name is Mariam Garcia and I am a Colorado native. This will be my third year teaching English at DLS and my sixth year in education. I am delighted to be a part of the DLS family for another wonderful year. I received my BA in History and Education from Metropolitan State University. My goal is to develop independent learners who have a love of learning and are truly life-long learners.

We are going to have a busy and productive school year, filled with fun and exciting learning activities.  I am very excited about the upcoming school year, as I hope you and your child are too!  I recognize that each of my students has their own way of learning, it is important for me to determine these styles and help all of my students achieve to the best of their ability.  I will set high, but clear and appropriate expectations for all my students and will assist them in using their knowledge and abilities to meet those expectations.

This year your student will be embarking on an exciting journey through Literacy by Design (LBD). LBD literacy curriculum features whole class interaction followed by differentiated small group instruction and independent activities. LBD scope and sequence incorporates Reading and Writing Workshops designed for balanced literacy and is fully correlated to the Common Core State Standards.

During the first few weeks of school we will discuss appropriate classroom rules which will be decided by the students. My number one rule is for each student to give their best effort.  Key to success in English is to ensure that your child is dedicating a portion of homework time each evening to reading.

On my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, arts & crafts, and outdoor fun!!

I am looking forward to a positive and productive year with you and your child.
