Sebastian Kadamany

My name is Sebastian Kadamay, I am from Colombia, and this is my third year at DLS. This year I am the fourth grade Math and Science teacher. I strive to be engaging and fun. I try to connect with students and create a personal relationship that allows students to feel welcome, comfortable, and supported. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Colorado Denver. I am currently working on getting my Master’s in the same field. I also have a minor in mathematics which allows me to teach math effectively as well as have a clear idea of what things are needed so that students have a foundation that allows them to be successful at higher level of math. As an undergrad I took many Chemistry, Physics, and Biology courses. I started out as a Chemistry major. I like to use that background to inspire my science lessons and bring real life example and activities to my classroom. Science is better when you can see it in action!

In my free time I like to play volleyball and soccer. I love watching football and you may find me from time to time playing video games. My favorite food is Italian.(Hopefully with some seafood in it.) I also enjoy cooking for myself. If I didn't have to work I would spend my life traveling the world and scuba diving.  Im am very happy to be here at DLS and I am looking forward to having a great school year.

Miguel Ortega

I am Miguel Ortega and I was born in Spain. When I was a child, I spent time in Mave, a small town in north of Spain. When I turned 18, I went to Valladolid to earn my Master’s Degree in History and teaching. After I finished my degree I went to study Social Anthropology in Granada in south of Spain.

After two years in Granada and many enriching experiences, I returned to Mave and worked on an art inventory for the government of the region of Castilla y Leon, as well as a coordinator of a project in Fundacion Santa Maria La Real in the marketing – communication department.

I began my teaching career in Denver as an elementary teacher.

I enjoy reading books, riding my bike, climbing and mountaineering in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. I’ve reached the top of some, but not all!, of the fourteeners. It seems like I just arrived, but this is my fifth year here. I am very excited to grow as a person and as a professional, and to be able to share my knowledge and experience with all of you!

Tracy Rosas

Hi! My name is Tracy. I am one of the third grade Spanish teachers as well as a parent here at Denver Language School. I have been working mostly in education since I graduated from Denver School of the Arts in 2002. I worked as a paraprofessional at University Park Elementary and Gilpin ECE-8 prior to doing my student teaching with Eva in 2011 here at Denver Language School. My decision to get a B.A. in Spanish was influenced by the many friends I have spent a lot of time with who are native speakers as well as travel to Mexico and Costa Rica. After completing my licensure in Spanish k-12 education from Metro State, I continued to work at DLS as a substitute for the rest of the 2011-2012 school year and then continued as a summer camp instructor each summer. During the 2012-2013 school year I taught Spanish as a foreign language and as a heritage language at Grant Beacon Middle School. My daughter and I are very happy to be part of the DLS community!

Katherine Pfitzinger

Yewei Jiang

Dear 4th  Grade Parents,

I am excited to begin the 2014-2015 school year at Denver Language School. My name is Yewei Jiang, and I was a 5th grade teacher last school year. Before I came to DLS, I worked as an immersion teacher for Global Village Academy for more than three years.   This school year, I’ll be a Language Arts (Mandarin) and Social studies teacher in 4th grade.   I am very happy to have your child in my classroom. I believe that by working hard together we can make this a very successful year!

First, the following is a list of goals that I have set for myself this year. I will make every effort to live up to these goals:

  1. I will try my best to finish all the academy contents for 4th grade that I am required to teach to your child.
  2. I will look for opportunities to reward and praise students for their work and good behavior.
  3. I will not show favoritism and will try to be fair to all.
  4. I will maintain a positive atmosphere for learning.
  5. I will make myself available and approachable to students.
  6. I will recognize the individuality of my students and will provide opportunities for each of them to experience success. I pledge to work  hard and make this a very successful year for us all.

Also, I consider it of prime importance that you be an active part of your child's education. You are invited to email or call me if you have a question concerning your child's progress. I prefer to use email to keep you posted if  there is a situation involving your child. As you can understand, I’m not always available to pick up a phone during daytime. Please allow 24 hours for your email reply. It is important that you and your child be informed of our standards of classroom behavior so everyone knows what is expected. I have always found parents to be very supportive of good classroom behavior so their child has a good environment for maximum learning. I consider it a great privilege and responsibility to be your child's teacher this year, and let me say thank you first for your cooperation and support!

Yours sincerely,

Yewei  Jiang

Maria C. Iglesias

Hello, my name is Maria. I have a degree in Applied Science from The Technical College of Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. This is the equivalent to a Business Administration Specialist. I also hold a Diploma in International Secretary, Financial, and Technological Studies from Spain as well. My work experience has been in administration in a private office, bank, and insurance company in Spain.

During the last four years I have enjoyed a wonderful experience in DLS. I worked as a substitute assistant teacher, assistant administrator, and I also assisted the school personnel in some other critical areas. The last two years I worked as a Spanish teacher assistant in first grade.

In order to be relevant, I believe education needs to include elements like social skills, pluralism, equality and futurism. I think that each child has the ability to become the best she/he can. Students’ minds are like sponges designed to soak up all the knowledge that teachers have to impart most of the time as unquestionable authorities not only as teachers but as the best models and mentors as well.

I am from the Northern part of Spain and I have been living for fourteen years between The United States and my country. I am happily married to a teacher and I have three children and a golden retriever. I love traveling, reading, and watching good movies.

I was also working with children with learning problems through Montessori Elementary School. During the 2012 year I had a great experience working in a dual language elementary school in Lexington, Nebraska. I value the enriching professional development gained in that bilingual environment. I am passionate about working with people and helping them to improve their lives. Nowadays, I am truly excited about teaching in Denver Language School where I have the opportunity to help children to acquire and improve their academic, emotional, and social growth in a multicultural and language immersed  environment.
