Vision

A primary goal of DLS will be to create an intentional school culture organized around the principles of a Professional Learning Community: mission, vision, values and goals. The vision of DLS:

  • Become a model of students acquiring superior second language skills as the basis for high overall academic achievement;
  • Develop the knowledge and skills in students necessary to be productive and valued citizens in a culturally diverse, global economy;
  • Prepare all students to be academically successful in their choice of secondary and post secondary education options;
  • Create an innovative school that can be replicated in Colorado and nationally.

Mission

The Denver Language will provide an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education.

DLS will educate an economically and racially diverse student population through a structured and supportive environment. DLS will follow a full language immersion process with Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. It will offer traditional learning activities in a second language, making the second language both the medium of instruction and the object of instruction. DLS will create an intentional culture that is critical for a successful school, providing faculty, students and parents with clear direction, meaningful structure and a vital sense of community.

Core Values

The DLS culture will be based on three guiding principles and seven core values:

  • Respect: appreciate the value of each member of the school community and property and demonstrate it through words, actions and attitudes.
  • Community: recognize that individuals prosper with a larger purpose than themselves-all in the school are responsible to the school community.
  • ersonal Accountability: make ethically guided, thoughtful choices and be accountable for them.
  • Integrity: be truthful and fair.
  • Cultural Appreciation: honor the world's wide array of people, languages, cultures, religions, races, and values and beliefs.
  • Best Efforts: everyone always tries their hardest.
  • Commitment: be true to what the school and community represent to allow everyone the chance to succeed.
